Books of Many Faiths
The Bible

Buddhism

Many writings are respected in Buddhism. Their holy books are about many gods.

The Bible tells about the one true God (Deuteronomy 6:4).

Confucianism

Respected writings include a book of sayings called “The Analects” and “The Five Classics.” They teach that people can be good by their own efforts.

The Bible teaches that people have a sin problem that can be solved by the grace of God through faith in Christ (Ephesians 2:8,9).

Mormonism

Mormons respect the Bible and other writings, including The Book of Mormon, Doctrines and Covenants, Pearl of Great Price, and revelations of Mormon prophets.

Some Mormon writings do not agree with the Bible. For example, Mormons believe baptism for the dead may allow some people to progress and be saved after they die. The Bible teaches that salvation is by God’s grace through faith in Christ. (See John 3:36.)

Scientology

Scientologists respect the teachings of L. Ron Hubbard, a writer who died in 1986. Scientology teaches that experiences in “past lives” can prevent people from doing their best in this lifetime.

The Bible teaches, “It is appointed for man to die once, but after this the judgment” (Hebrew 9:27). People do not have past lives.

Native American Religions

Native American religions respect tradition and tribal wisdom passed down in writings and by word of mouth. Traditionally, followers try to gain favor with spirit beings, as well as with the Supreme Being.

God rules the universe and He alone is worthy of worship. (See Matthew 4:10b.)

New Age

Many writings and teachings are respected. New Agers believe Jesus was a great teacher and just a man.

Jesus was not just a man, but “the way, the truth, and the life.” He said, “No man comes to the Father except through Me” (John 14:6).

Islam

The Koran, which teaches that Jesus is not the Son of God.

Jesus is the Son of God (Mark 1:11) who died to save those who believe in Him.
