Writing in Ancient Iraq Print E-mail
The Sumerians were an ancient group of people. They lived in the region that is now Iraq. The Sumerians developed a system of writing called “cuneiform,” which means “wedge shaped.” Sumerian scribes wrote on clay tablets with styluses.

Write something on a flattened rectangle of modeling clay by pressing the end of a Popsicle stick into the clay. Use no curved or rounded marks. Make only straight marks like the marks used in cuneiform writing.
